Macworld review of Samsung Q1

I got a chance to play with the Q1 at Samsung’s booth. The Q1 is finished with the same sort of shiny black plastic that is used in the PlayStation Portable and the few devices on show were already collecting lots of fingerprints. It’s going to be one of those products that requires lots of shining!

In my hands it didn’t feel too bad. It’s quite light at 779 grams (1.72 pounds) and wasn’t too thick to make it difficult to hold. ( more )

Engadget Hands on with Asus and Founder UMPCs

We got a chance to lay flesh to gadget and conduct a quick hands-on with both the new ASUS and Founder UMPCs. These devices look and feel solid with the ASUS throwing down a sleek, brushed alluminum case and 1.3-megapixel front mounted cam for WiFi video conferencing. Oh, and the UMPC from Founder also slaps in a 1GHz Pentium M processor compared to the 900MHz Celeron M in the ASUS. Expect these to sport optional, built-in GPS and mobile digital TV adapters too once they hit the streets, with premium price tags to match. Mums the word on exact pricing or availability but at least one of these three will drop this month for consumption. ( more )

First look at Agilix Go Binder

An all new and improved version of the coveted Go Binder from Agilix. In Go Binder 2006 there are ink enhancements as well as new features in the PIM functionality. We worked with Go Binder 2006 briefly and found it to be stable, easy to use and very slick looking. The animated GUI is very cool.

The new ink enhancements include a "one click" screen pen, hilighter and color selection tool. There is also a shape tool that makes perfect circles, squares, etc. Also there are multiple "flags" to mark key areas in your notes or documents. ( more )

Eleksen announces 3 UMPC-optimized keyboards

Engadget: We have to admit, we're a little hurt that fabric keyboard designer Eleksen didn't give us the heads up about Origami, considering how long they must have known the secret for. Coinciding with the Samsung/ASUS/Founder launch, Eleksen introduced three UMPC-friendly reference designs, indicating that they may be backing away from marketing their own brand in favor of licensing their ElekTex tech to OEMs. Besides UMPC-optimized versions of their rollable USB and Bluetooth models, the company announced a design for a carrying case with an integrated keyboard, media controls, and/or gesture sensors. All three reference designs are available immediately for OEM device integration, although it's unclear when we'll actually see products on the shelves. ( more )
